Last week, six EHS students participated in the Jeffco High School Honor Choir. Bethany Cooke, Miranda DeWald, David Espinoza, Gioia Infelise, Danny Lynch, and Alex Torgler joined 120 other high school choir students to put on a concert that represents Jeffco choir programs.
What goes into this festival? What happens at the festival? Well, students received a set of challenging music in December and were expected to learn it mostly on their own although we did rehearse together a couple of times and there were part tracks available online. On Thursday January 7, the students traveled to Dakota Ridge HS for sectionals, dinner, and a mass rehearsal. Then on January 8, everyone met at the concert venue (West Bowles Community Church) to rehearse with their conductor and clinician. The students had the opportunity to sing under Kyle Fleming who is currently in his fourth year of conducting and teaching at the University of Denver. Mr. Fleming conducts DU's Lamont Men's Choir and is a very dynamic and energetic director. The energy of the rehearsals were very positive, it was apparent to all of us directors that he was enjoying working the students as much as they were enjoying working with him. The students rehearsed with Mr. Fleming all day, fine tuning the various musical selections. That evening, the group gave a concert combined with the Jeffco Middle School Honor Choir, directed by Stuart Dameron. The concert was truly powerful, the music was well prepared and diverse in styles. It was amazing to see high school students from all over the district, coming together to make beautiful music.
I am very proud of the students who participated! All of you juniors out there, any of the seniors who participated would tell you to definitely do it because it is a wonderful experience.
